A futon is a smart, functional furniture choice for the living room or den. Futon sofas provide the style and comfort of a standard sofa, but also folds down into an extra sleeping space in seconds. This makes futon sofas especially good for apartment living rooms and homes with few or no guest rooms.
The Japanese are the ones who started the futon bedding system. Actually, they used the word “shikibuton”, meaning mattress; it was the Americans who named it a futon. Unlike the Japanese, the American concept included the mattress, the convertible furniture it sits on, or both.
